Sandpiper Bay Receives the MBGCOA’s Course of the Year Award
Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club now has something else to brag about with their new award. The Sunset Beach course recently received one of the highest golfing honors on the Grand Strand with their win of the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owner’s Association Course of the Year Award for 2010.
Each nominee for the award is rated on four criteria: the exceptional quality of the golf course, the exceptional quality of the ownership and management, the outstanding contributions made to the community, and the significant contributions to the game. Sandpiper Bay is no stranger to awards, as over the years it has been highly recommended and rated.
In celebration of their win, Sandpiper Bay plans to reopen the Bay 9 which underwent a three-year renovation project. This nine, along with the other nines, saw the installation of new Minverde Bermuda Grass Greens on each hole. The project also included extensive cart path repaving, clubhouse renovations, and tree removal.
Management on the course attributes their win to the extensive three-year renovation project. Sandpiper also helped raise $16,000 for the Susan G. Komen foundation in their fight against breast cancer. The course also donated $29,000 in greens fees and gifts to various charities. There extensive involvement in charities and the community launched Sandpiper in the lead during voting.
Past winners of the MBGCOA include World Tour Golf Links, Wachesaw Plantation East, Grande Dunes, and Shaftesbury Glen.
