Course Review

Gene Hamm has done it again with Azalea Sands, a player friendly yet fun and interesting course located in North Myrtle Beach. In fact, Azalea Sands may be the most player friendly course on the Grand Strand. It is also one of the few remaining courses in the area that isn’t full of man-made hazards. Another great aspect? There are no houses around the course so you’ll feel at one with the greatest game on Earth without the neighborhood distractions you’ll find at so many of the other courses in Myrtle Beach.

At Azalea Sands, the greens are always smooth and the first hole really opens up the course and completely sets the tone for your entire day. The opener is a tree-lined fairway which becomes even narrower due to the bunkers and rough. Hole 2 is generally a favorite and is a short par-4 that requires you to carry over water to an offset green. There’s also a pair of bunkers in front ready to stand between you and your perfect score. This hole is a true strategy hole, so bring your A game.

The fifth hole is the most visually pleasing: a par 3 over water to a green armed with four bunkers. Don’t let its beauty fool you as this hole can either make you or break you. There’s only one true dogleg at Azalea Sands and it rests on the 13th. Look out for the crowned green on the eighth as it’s sure to spring up on you.

Many golfers continue to return to Azalea Sands year after year due to its player friendly atmosphere, distinctive layout, and variety of challenges. Come see what all the fuss is about for yourself as you’re sure to come back for a return visit!
