Dunes Golf Club
Golf & Beach Club
Dunes Golf & Beach Club is easily one of the most intriguing courses on the Grand Strand. Also one of the oldest courses, Robert Trent Jones has designed a course that will continue to have great influence on the game of golf for years to come. This course is notably one of the first to implement water hazards around landing areas.
Dunes has continuously been ranked the “#1 Golf Course in Myrtle Beach” and recently underwent a massive 90-day renovation in 2013 under the direction of ‘The Open Doctor’ Rees Jones, the Dunes Championship Course re-opened to fantastic reviews.
The Club successfully converted all greens from A-1 Bentgrass to Ultradwarf Champion Bermuda surfaces. Additional projects completed during the closure included significantly enlarging the practice tee and range, the construction and addition of a new chipping green and practice bunker as well as the addition of over 250 yards to the championship tees. The Championship Course now measures 7,450 yards, which positively positioned the Dunes Golf and Beach Club to co-host the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship.
In Rees Jones’ own words, “The golf course my father, Robert Trent Jones, created for the Dunes Club in 1948 is one of his true masterpieces. It is a challenging championship course designed on ideal land for golf; sandy, rolling terrain along the ocean with magnificent trees framing the fairways. It has been one of the highlights of my career to have had the opportunity to restore and enhance the original design intent. The course is now positioned for play by today’s golfers.”
